Description
Harbourside Festival Marketplace in Darling Harbour is today one of Sydney’s best-known buildings. It was modelled on the ‘festival marketplaces’ of Boston and Baltimore, and was revolutionary in terms of Australian retail architecture. Its construction acted as a catalyst for radical change in the inner city. At the time of its opening to the public, it was such a momentous occasion for Sydney retail that Queen Elizabeth ?? attended the opening.
Connected by monorail to the CBD and covering 16,000 m². Harbourside consisted of over 200 shops offering Australian and international products ranging from fashion to homewares and gourmet food. There are also many renowned waterfront restaurants and bars with breathtaking harbour views, including Zaaffran, Jordan’s Seafood Restaurant and the Cohi Bar.
